The reality of being a student

My student years have been the absolute best times of my life whilst also having experienced some of the worst times of my life. For a lot of students heading for university you are around the age of 18 and spend at least 3 years there, which are still very much your developing years. It’s often everyone’s first time living without parents or guardians, and the first tie having to actually look after yourself. A few of us thrive in the freedom of choosing and making your own meals, cleaning up our own space others choose to live a messier lifestyle and live off Deliveroo which is also perfectly fine.

With most people’s student loans barely covering their rent (if they even cover their rent at all!) everyone finds their own ways of becoming a little bit savvy with how we chose to spend our limited funds and still enjoy ourselves, for example one of my favourite ways to hack the system is to order a vodka water on a night out and then add my own Robinsons squash that fit in your bag. The main core of having a successful student life is finding the perfect balance between day-to-day errands, your actual education and meeting deadlines and maintaining a healthy social life, if you manage to find the right balance you are winning.

In my opinion university is a great place to learn so many life skills, in addition to your degree. Through all the little challenges you teach yourself time management, financial independence, independent living, social skills and so much more. It is these skills that cannot be taught in a lecture theatre that help us develop into adults who are ready to go into the real world after we graduate.
