Countryside living
I chose to move away from my family home in North Wales to attend the University of Huddersfield. Prior to this I have never moved house or lived anywhere else, so this move was a huge step for me. In doing so I’ve learned there’s a lot more differences to living in a big town like Huddersfield compared to my very small Welsh village.
When I first got to Huddersfield, I was baffled by the fact they have Uber and Deliveroo, getting a takeaway delivered to your house was an extremely alien concept to me. The main thing I missed from home was the countryside, as far as big towns go, Huddersfield has a lot of countryside, but I would find myself constantly wanting to touch some grass and in terms of photography it was a similar thing. Throughout school and sixth form, my default photography themes were usually relating to some sort of nature or landscapes but a I got further into my course I realised it is not as accessible as it is at home.
Due to this it pushed me to explore other areas of photography that I hadn’t looked at before, more studio-based work, some with models and some product and in doing so I developed a much better understanding of basic lighting and tethering from a camera. Looking back Huddersfield was the perfect choice for me, if I had gone to a city I think it would have made my head explode, but for the time I was there im glad I got to experience a very different way of life to the one I have always known, but three years later, I am very ready to go back to my rural countryside living.
